Department of Fashion & Textiles

The Department of Fashion & Textiles is the school’s largest department, offering design, leadership & strategy, and marketing education at undergraduate, taught-postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The department supports one of the largest international student communities in Europe studying fashion leadership, management, and strategy programmes, whilst maintaining a long-held reputation for the nurturing of high-level design practice and craft-based skills. The department supports a diverse and inclusive research environment, with notable strengths in fashion & textiles and cultural history, critical luxury studies, sustainability, and e-textiles and materials innovation.

About the role

This role focuses on maintaining our growing national and international reputation in Fashion Leadership, including digital marketing, social media marketing, new technologies, fashion marketing, branding, and digital contexts. The role will focus on high quality education and research delivery that complement the school and university’s broader research and education strategy. This is an excellent opportunity to join an ever-growing school, that embraces education, research, and enterprise, focusing on the student experience, curriculum development, underpinned by research, as well as collaborating with industry partners.

About You

You will have experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well being able to develop key research activities in your discipline. A key aspect of this role is the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external to the school, as well as contributing to research projects/proposals, involvement in curriculum development, and aligning your work to the university and school’s education and research strategies.

With a focus on digital strategy, marketing, and management, you will be part of a dynamic department focusing on sustainability, research, research methodologies, and overall fashion leadership across different sectors, including the luxury sector. You’ll become a part of a dynamic group of academics that are leading the way in fashion leadership and marketing and are emracing the digital arena from both an education delivery and research perspective. Relevant academic and industry experience is welcomed.

You will demonstrate a defined research portfolio pertinent to the field, including burgeoning areas of interest; offer pathways to high quality research; contribute to postgraduate research supervision; and evidence engagement with research funding applications/projects and external research communities. The School welcomes high levels of research collaboration and a keenness for interdisciplinary work is an advantage.
