M. Basketball Faces Syracuse In ACC Tournament Wednesday At Noon

NEW YORK, NY (seminoles.com) — Florida State, which won each of its final three games of the season, plays Syracuse in the second round of the 2022 ACC Tournament at 12 Noon on Wednesday, March 9, at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY The Seminoles’ game against the Orange marks the first meeting between the two teams in ACC Tournament play. Florida State and Syracuse met twice during the 2022 regular season with each team winning on the other’s home court. The Seminoles won in Syracuse (76-71, January 15) and the Orange won in Tallahassee (63-60, December 4). The Seminoles enter Wednesday’s game against Syracuse having won four of their last five games played against the Orange including a series-best three-game winning streak which included wins on January 13, 2018 (101-90, in double overtime in Tallahassee), February 5, 2019 (80-62 at Syracuse) and February 15, 2020 (80-77 at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee). The winner of Wednesday’s game between Florida State and Syracuse will face No. 1 seeded Duke on Thursday, March 10 at 12 Noon at the Barclay’s Center.

SEMINOLES’ CLEVELAND NAMED ACC MEN’S BASKETBALL SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR
Florida State freshman Matthew Cleveland, the only player in the ACC to average in double figure scoring while citing fewer than 10 games, has been named the ACC Men’s Basketball Sixth Man of the Year by a blue ribbon voting panel and announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference . Cleveland becomes the fourth consecutive Seminole to win the award as he follows in footsteps of NBA first round draft picks Mfiondu Kabengele (2019), Patrick Williams (2020) and Scottie Barnes (2021). The ACC Sixth Man of the Year Award was established in 2014 and has been won by a Seminole player in four of the nine years it has been awarded. Cleveland has come off the bench in 20 of 28 games, with eight starting assignments. He was moved into Florida State’s starting lineup on February 2 because of injuries to each member of the Seminoles’ starting five. Injuries and illnesses have caused eight different Seminole players to miss a total of 50 games.

HAMILTON IS THE FIFTH WINNINGEST COACH IN ACC HISTORY
Seminole Head Coach Leonard Hamilton is the fifth winningest coach in ACC history with 394 career wins and ranked fifth in ACC history with 175 career ACC wins at Florida State.

FLORIDA STATE EARNS 10 ACC WINS – WINNINGEST 4-YEAR PERIOD IN ACC PLAY IN SCHOOL HISTORY
Florida State defeated NC State on Saturday to win its 10th ACC game of the season. It marks the school record tying fourth consecutive season the Seminoles have reached double digits in regular season ACC wins. Florida State earned at least 10 ACC wins from 2009-12 (43 total regular season ACC wins) and have won at least 10 ACC regular season games from 2019-22 (50 ACC wins).

HAMILTON TO BE INDUCTED INTO FLORIDA STATE HALL OF FAME
The Florida State University’s Athletics Hall of Fame will induct nine new members on Friday, April 8, including men’s basketball coach Leonard Hamilton and All-Americans from six different sports. Hamilton, who is the Seminoles’ all-time winning basketball coach and currently the fifth all-time winning coach in ACC history, will be inducted along with one of his former players in star point guard Toney Douglas.

FLORIDA STATE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Head Coach Leonard Hamilton has led the Seminoles into the championship game of the ACC Tournament in each of the last two tournaments. The Seminoles won the ACC Championship in 2020 and played for the Championship in both 2019 and 2021.

FLORIDA STATE’S 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF ITS 2012 ACC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
Florida State won its first ACC Tournament Championship in 2012. Tournament MVP Michael Snaer scored 18 points and 17th-ranked Florida State used a barrage of 3-pointers to beat No. 4 North Carolina 85-82 for the ACC championship on March 11, 2022 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Snaer, Deividas Dulkys (16 points), Luke Loucks (10 points and 13 rebounds) and Ian Miller (10 points) all scored in double figures for Florida State. The Seminoles led 49-42 at halftime, shot .589 from the field (33 of 56) and .500 from the 3-point line (11 of 22) in defeating the Tar Heels for the second time during the season. Harrison Barnes led North Carolina with 23 points. Tyler Zeller totaled 19 points and 12 rebounds for North Carolina

SEMINOLES NOW WITH SIX ONE-POINT VICTORIES
Florida State won its sixth game of the 2021-22 season which was decided by one point with its 64-63 win over Virginia on February 26 in Charlottesville. The Seminoles have defeated five ACC teams by one point (Miami, 65-64 on January 11; Duke, 79-78 in overtime on January 18; at Miami, 61-60, January 22; Clemson, 81-80, February 15 and at Virginia, 64-63, on February 26) and defeated Boston University in a non-conference game (81-80, November 24). The Seminoles are the first team in ACC history to win each of their five ACC games that were decided by exactly one point. The ACC record for games decided by one point for any ACC team is six by Notre Dame during the 2019-20 season. The Fighting Irish were 3-3 in one-point decisions during the 2019-20 season.

SEMINOLES’ COLLEGE BASKETBALL RECORD OVERTIME WINNING STREAK
Florida State defeated Duke, 79-78, in overtime on January 18 in Tallahassee for its all-time college basketball record 13th consecutive overtime victory. The Seminoles have won each of their overtime decisions since a 101-90 double overtime win over Syracuse on January 13, 2018 in a game played at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee. Florida State has defeated 11 teams during their overtime streak. The Seminoles are 2-0 in OT games this year.
